Wireless Devices Overview
Wireless device refers to those equipments in which electromagnetic waves (rather than some form of wire) carry the signal over part or the entire communication path. In this technology information is transferred over a long distances without using wires.
Types
Wireless can be classified as Fixed wireless, Mobile wireless, Portable wireless, IR wireless etc. The common examples of wireless equipment are Cellular phones and pagers, Global Positioning System (GPS), Cordless computer peripherals, Cordless telephone sets, some hi-fi sound systems, FM broadcast receivers, Two-way radios , Baby monitors, Satellite television etc.
More specialized and exotic examples are GSM (Global System for Mobile Communication), GPRS (General Packet Radio Service), EDGE (Enhanced Data GSM Environment), UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System), WAP (Wireless Application Protocol), i-MODE etc.
