Electrical Tapes Overview
Electrical tape is a type of a pressure sensitive tape used to insulate electrical wires ad other material that conduct electricity. The black tapes taken into use are the one of the most common types, which is meant to withstand insulation and low voltage. It can be made of many plastics, but vinyl is most popular; it stretches well and gives an effective and long lasting insulation. UL listed tape is certified to not catch fire and burn when overheated, meanwhile non-UL listed tape may contribute or start a fire and burn like a petroleum product
Variants
Variants for electrical tapes are identified on the basis of their color such as red, blue, brown, orange, yellow, green, yellow with green stripe, white and gray which indicate their respective voltage withstanding capacities.
Applications
Electrical tape is often used to secure lighting cables to the truss in stagecraft. It is also used to join fuses in firework rigging, to provide both mechanical strength and short-term waterproofing. Electrical tapes find alternate usage in shinguards, preventing abrasion from causing cuts or problems like cauliflower ear.
